To the extent that we sit passively by during these challenging times – when the fate of the earth and all its life forms hang in the balance – to that very extent, we give our tacit approval to the forces amassed to destroy us.” Peter De Mott, 1947-2009
Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe that this year marks the tenth anniversary of Peter’s death. His spirit remains with us during these particularly challenging times.
In his memory, we again invite you to take part in the Peter De Mott Peace Trot, which will be held this coming Father’s Day, June 16, at Cass Park in Ithaca. Please note the new start time which is 9am!
Over these past ten years, the Ithaca Catholic Worker community has continued the work of justice and peace that was Peter’s life mission. You have been part of that work in so many ways, including your participation in the Peace Trot. Please plan to join us again in this celebration of Peter’s life and of the community he helped to build.
The funds you and your fellow trotters raise through the Peace Trot will be used to:

Please plan to join us again in this celebration of Peter’s life and of the community he helped to build.
The funds you and your fellow trotters raise through the Peace Trot will be used to:
- Maintain the Peter De Mott Catholic Worker House which has provided hospitality to people on the margins
- Support activism against militarism, racial justice, income inequality, and the degradation of the environment.
- Provide moral and financial support to people from a variety of religious persuasions who face prison for non-violent civil resistance, including the seven peace activists arrested last year for their non-violent protest at the Kings Bay Nuclear Submarine Base on the coast of Georgia. The Kings Bay Plowshares 7 includes our own local Catholic Worker member Clare Grady. The group will go on trial in Federal Court in Georgia in the coming months. For more information: kingsbayplowshares7.org.
Please visit the registration page, make a gift even if you cannot participate, learn about practice runs in the weeks leading up to the event, and find the details for the Mass that will be celebrated that weekend.
Thank you for continuing Peter’s work and vision by supporting the Peace Trot. We look forward to seeing you on
June 16!
Ellen Grady and Tom Joyce for the coordinating committee.
