A Note on the 5K Course Record

Because the Trot race director failed to get the course redirected quickly enough at the end of the run, the winner, Sam Chauvin, inadvertently ran down the pathway the same way he ran up.  Although his time was lower than the course record, the correct finishing route on the paths is longer by 300 feet.  We've decided that Sam is clearly the winner of the 6th Peter De Mott Peace Trot, but that the course time record remains with Andris Goncarovs.  We would like to congratulate Sam both for winning the race but most of all for his great sportsmanship.  After he realized that all the other runners where coming down a different and slightly longer route, he immediately ran back up the path to apologize to the race marshall for the mistake and communicated what had happened to us.  Here is hoping that Sam comes back to run again next year!  And that he brings some of his Cornell track/cross country team mates with him!
